James Joseph Hill, Jr.

James Joseph Hill, Jr., 97, passed away Sunday, April 25, 2021 at his residence. He was born July 23, 1923 in Rock Hill, SC to the late James Joseph Hill and Elise Mobley Hill.  He was a graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, and of Georgia Tech.  Mr. Hill was a former member of Robert McIntyre United Methodist Church, and a current member of Wesley Monumental United Methodist Church.  He was retired from Union Camp Corporation (now International Paper), where he was inducted into the first Union Camp Hall of Fame in 1990.  During his time with Union Camp, he served as Chief of Engineers, traveling extensively on behalf of the company.     

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Claudine Hutchins Hill, and his brother, William M. Hill.

Surviving are his children, James W. Hill, Katharine H. Ruse, Helen H. Waters, Mary Anne Hill, all of Savannah, his sister, Marian H. Smith, four grandchildren, Caroline R. Szpak, Thomas M. Waters, Andrew H. Ruse, and Jin Tian Acton, three greatgrandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, April 29, 2021 at Fox & Weeks, Hodgson Chapel.

Graveside Service will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, April 30, 2021 at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, with Dr. Ben Martin officiating.

Remembrances may be made to Wesley Glen Ministries, 4580 N. Mumford Road, Macon, GA 31210-4098.
